We all must appreciate a good gesture when it is made. President Asif Ali Zardari has voluntarily offered his name in an attempt to legalise the status of a large number of children who were born legally but their patronage was unknown.
Thousands of such children landed in the welfare centres because they lost their parents in the earthquake in the year 2005 and the catastrophic flood in year 2010.
President Zardari has allowed NADRA to use his name in the father’s name box for all such children as disclosed by NADRA’s chairman Malik Tarek.Irrespective of the fact that the government has sought a fatwa from the muftis of different schools of thoughts from Saudi Arabia and Iran who have suggested that the names of their fathers and mothers be written as Adam and Eve, the gesture already shown by the President Zardari is commendable.
