Amidst conflicting reports of casualties in the latest round of clashes between security forces and militants in the border areas of Mohmand Agency, officials claimed that the armed forces had gained control of Walidad Top on Sunday after an intense battle that left 25 militants dead, while Taliban militants claimed to have killed 19 soldiers.
The forces launched the operation on Saturday and the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement that troops were able to secure the Walidad Top and surrounding areas of the mountain after heavy resistance from militants. It said that the security forces managed to kill 25 militants and made the rest flee across the border. It said troops were now consolidating their positions in the area.
The statement said a joint operation of Pakistan Army, FC and the PAF had been launched against the militant stronghold of Walidad in Mohmand Agency on Saturday. Ground operations were preceded by precision strikes by the PAF.
