A petition was filed in the Lahore High Court on Saturday for the registration of a criminal case against Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah for passing a decree declaring Dr Babar Awan liable to be death. The petition named the Punjab law minister and the provincial and federal governments as respondents.
The petitioner claimed that the law minister has made an attempt to instigate the public to commit murder and anarchy, which was a heinous offence under the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) and Criminal Procedure Code (CPC). He submitted that the law minister, who his supposed to be responsible for law and order in the province, gave the statement ignoring his position and authority, therefore, an FIR should be registered against him.
The petitioner said the statement would damage the image of Pakistan in the international community and could also lead to serious consequences inside the country. The petition said the statement also damaged the image of lawyers, as they never talked of violence, but the minister had stated that he had passed the remark in his capacity as a lawyer.
He contended that the statement was against Article 9 which guaranteed right of liberty and life to all citizens and, therefore, fell under criminal procedure code. The petitioner requested the court to summon the minister and ask him to explain under what authority or law he issued the satement. He also sought directions to the federal and provincial governments to take action against Sanaullah.
Meanwhile, PML-N lawyers’ forum announced to file a writ petition against Babar Awan in response to the petition against Sanaullah.
Law Minister Sanaullah said the PML-N had colleted all details of allegations exposing the misdeeds of the former federal law minister Babar Awan.

  1. Perhaps in Pakistani politics all is right. However, one can expect such irresponsible words only from some insane politician.
