Kashmir elections: another thorn between MQM and PPP?

A new row appears to have erupted between the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) on the issue of Kashmir elections. Reportedly, the differences have emerged over the issue of elections of two Kashmir constituencies in Sindh LA-30 and LA 36, which are reserved for Sindh in the Kashmir Assembly. The MQM is complaining that the administration wants to postpone the elections on these constituencies and level the blame squarely on the government that the returning officers in these constituencies are not being allowed to work.
The meeting MQM Coordination Committee was held on Saturday simultaneously in Karachi and London to discuss the issue. It was decided at the meeting to lodge a protest with government and election commission about its partiality on every stage. Other options, including the boycott of the budget session, were also considered. Another meeting of the party’s coordination committee was called for Sunday to announce the final decision as the MQM has decided not to back away from the election process and go till the end at any cost.
