A jawan of security forces embraced martyrdom and three others were injured when militants attacked a check post in Saam area of Ladha sub division in South Waziristan on Saturday. Officials are claiming that three miscreants were also killed in the retaliatory action.
As per details, militants targeted the security personnel with rockets which damaged the various portions of the check post. The injured personnel were airlifted into the Combined Military Hospital Bannu where they are stated to be in critical condition. The security forces in retaliation targeted suspected the militants’ hideouts in the nearby area and killed three of them besides injuries to some others.
Militants are attacking the security forces in Ladha and surrounding areas regularly despite the fact that the officials had claimed clearing the area of militants in October 2009 military operation. However, the Mehsud tribesmen are reluctant to accept claims, and are not willing to be repatriated from Tank and Dera Ismail Khan. Meanwhile, the Peshawar Police late on Friday night repulsed an attack by militants after an encounter, which lasted for around an hour, just at the boundary with Bara tehsil of Khyber Agency. More than 30 armed militants attacked the Riaz Shaheed Police Post at Sarband area, around 30 km southwest of the provincial capital. They fired three rockets and opened fire with sophisticated weapons. The policemen deployed at the post acted bravely and forced the extremists to escape after the gun battle.
A police official said police did not suffer any human and logistic loss. However, he claimed inflicting sever losses to the militants who, according to him, managed to take away the dead and injured accomplice along with.
It was the third attack in the Sarband area foiled by the police and security forces in the recent weeks. The members of Lashkar-e-Islam, a banned militant group active in Bara region of Khyber Agency, are involved in deadly attacks on civilians and security forces.
