As many as 40 polling stations out of total 257 have been declared sensitive regarding the AJK Legislative Assembly general elections scheduled to be held here on June 26. There are 191,319 registered voters in two constituencies (LA-31, Jammu-II Sialkot and LA-32, Jammu-III Sialkot). About 69 polling stations have been established in LA-31 Jammu-II Sialkot and 188 in LA-32 Jammu-III Sialkot by the Election Commission. These polling stations have been set up in Sialkot, Daska, Sambrial and Pasrur. 2,000 policemen would be deployed to avert any untoward incident, besides ensuring transparent, free and impartial election.
SIKH YATREES VISIT SIALKOT: Dozens of male and female Sikh Yatrees from UK, India and Canada visited their native houses in Daska, Sambrial, Pasrur and Sialkot amid tight security to refresh their pre-partition memories. They also met with their old friends and their children and distributed sweets and exchanged gifts with them. They also went to Darbar Sahib Kartarpura and attended the religious rites. The Sikhs distributed special sweets among the local people, besides, extending gratitude to the Pakistanis.
On this occasion while talking to the newsmen, the group leader, Sardar Parbeet Singh from London, stressed the need of peace in the subcontinent for the regional development and prosperity. He said that the world community must come forward and use its complete influence for peace in the subcontinent. He said that both the nuclear neighbours, Pakistan and India, should immediately re-start peace talks in the larger interest of the people of the two countries. The Sikhs also thanked the Pakistan government for protecting Sikhs’ sacred places, especially temples in Pakistan. They said that the Sikh community was ready to play its pivotal role in establishing durable peace in the subcontinent.
