We often hear and read about injustice of police, particularly in regard to women in custody. Police is a public service organisation that is responsible for the safety and security of the general public. However, there is a set of procedures that the police are bound to follow and it is also important for the general public to have an idea of these procedures so that they are protected in case of a violation. Women are given special protection by the law and police is not allowed to arrest women between sunset and sunrise. This can only be done under special circumstances, with permission from the magistrate. It is also important and in favour of the police to follow these procedures by keeping women in separate lockups, otherwise a complaint can result in serious consequences.
