Expressing displeasure with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) for not registering cases against officials who misused Rs 2.5 billion of the Staff Welfare Fund of the National Bank of Pakistan, the Supreme Court on Friday ordered FIA to proceed against the accused in accordance with the law and submit a report by June 22.
A three-member Supreme Court bench of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Tariq Parvez and Justice Ami Hani Muslim was hearing petitions against the misuse of Rs 2.5 billion of the NBP Staff Welfare Fund by the bank’s senior officials. During the hearing, FIA Karachi Director Moazzam Jah informed the court that more than Rs 2.5 billion had been embezzled from the NBP’s Staff Welfare Fund, of which Rs 330 million were distributed among NBP officers.
