Sanaullah offers security to Awan within Punjab

Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah has offered security to former federal minister Babar Awan for his movement across the province. Talking to reporters on Friday before the start of the assembly session, the law minister said there were no intelligence reports regarding threat to the life of Senator Awan.
“However, on behalf of the provincial government and in my capacity as the law minister, I accept the responsibility to secure Awan’s life within Punjab,” he said.
Sanaullah also extended an offer to Opposition leader in Punjab Assembly Raja Riaz to constitute a parliamentary committee under his supervision to probe into the corruption in the Sasti Roti Scheme to remove PPP’s apprehension over the public welfare programme. When asked about his asset details released by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), the law minister said he had the same assets 10 years ago, but inflationary effects and escalating trends in prices had multiplied their value.
Lamenting the PPP’s hue and cry over the statement attributed to him wherein he declared Awan “liable to death”, Sanaullah denied the charges levelled against him. He said PPP leaders had forgotten that the “so-called” Opposition Leader in the Senate Abdul Ghafoor Haideri had passed fatwa against slain Punjab governor Salman Taseer a few months ago and declared him “liable to death”, but no PPP leader took notice of the fatwa at that time.
