The maturity level that our politicians and leaders have not risen up to despite their age and experience proves the fact that growing old may be mandatory but growing up will always remain optional. The accusations of Rana Sanaullah against Senator Babar Awan – whether justified or not is immaterial – is something that not only our leaders but relatively educated people are resorting to.
The linguistic choices made by an individual are a reflector of that person’s ideology. Our utterances carry the burden of our souls and become a site for expressing our deepest and darkest desires and attitudes either consciously or unconsciously. From the people of authority, we do not expect such sentimental and emotional spurting for the sake of credit gaining. The public expects wisdom and a balanced approach towards genuine issues of significance such as good governance and justice. We do not need emotive tirades from misguided people at the top rammed down our throats three times a day, but solutions to our most fundamental problems of whether to exist or not.
Drawing caricatures and pronouncing people “eligible for killing” without having the authority to do so provides a perfect paradigm for the public to propagate with more conviction. Is that what the speakers intend when they utter such phrases? If so, why?
