Traffic flow remained suspended for hours on both sides of canal on Thursday evening as the activists of Islami Jamiat Talaba (IJT) blocked the road at the bus stop of Hostel # 4 and 15 while protesting against the prolonged power outages in Punjab University.
The traffic on Canal Road from Ferozpur Road Underpass to Jinnah Underpass remained completely blocked between 5pm and 8pm. The vehicles were diverted to the connecting roads of canal but the traffic could not be able to pick the pace even hours after the end of traffic jam.
The canal bank road blockade also affected the traffic flow in nearby areas of
Allama Iqbal Town, Wahdat Road, Johar Town, Faisal Town and Model Town leaving a large number of commuters in lurch.
Another traffic jam was witnessed at 5 pm near Mall Road Underpass due to the collision of three cars and the traffic blockade near the Mall irked thousands of travelers for more than an hour.
