Youth in crisis

For the last few years, the youth of our country has gone through many changes. They have become more violent, more independent, more confident and better equipped to handle the needs of the present day.

Why they have become so violent is something that needs to be further explored. The spirit of patriotism is decreasing among them. They don’t have passion, zeal and enthusiasm for doing something which contributes to the country and society. They have become fashion oriented without regards for morality.

In Pakistan, an estimated 35 million people are in the age group of 15-29 years. Almost 70 percent of the total population is under the age of 29. Unfortunately, most of the youth of our country are on the path which does not lead them to be a responsible member of the society. Some of the youth spend their leisure time sleeping, playing games, using Facebook, going to parties etc.

Franklin D. Roosevelt said, “We cannot always build the future for our youth, but we can build our youth for the future.” So, the need of the hour is to wake up the sleeping youth and make them realise their importance in society. Firstly, parents and teachers can provide support and guidelines to children. Secondly, media can be a great positive force in this regard.
