Police on Tuesday arrested over 50 sacked young doctors for attempting to stage a sit in outside the Chief Minister’s Secretariat and Governor’s House to press the government to accept their demands. Seven doctors were reportedly injured in the tear gas shelling by police.
According to police officer Mohammad Ayaz, the young doctors took out their rally from Sandeman Hospital and started moving towards the Chief Minister’s Secretariat and Governor’s House despite the police requesting them not to do so. However, when the protesters tried to move to Sharah-e-Zarghoon from Enscomb, the police fired tear gas shells and fired a few aerial bullets to disperse the protesting doctors. As a result seven doctors received injuries and were shifted to a hospital for treatment.
Police said although the protesting doctors were arrested, no case had been registered against them so far and they would be hopefully released after furnishing surety bonds or individual guarantees of not violating the law in the future. Meanwhile, the Punjab Young Doctors Association (YDA) on Tuesday declared a strike from Wednesday onwards, complying with the YDA Balohistan after the manhandling of doctors in Quetta.
The YDA officials said the outdoor patient departments (OPDs) of all hospitals shall remain closed in protest till the Balochistan government accepts all demands made by the Balochistan YDA and apologises for mistreatment of the doctors.
