Kharotabad tribunal raps manhandling of two witnesses

The inquiry tribunal investigating the Kharotabad incident, in which five foreigners including three women were killed on May 17 last, expressed its resentment over the manhandling of two main witnesses of the incident by police officials. The police have allegedly roughed up a police surgeon and a photo journalist.
The tribunal directed police high-ups to extend their cooperation for bringing the culprits to justice. The tribunal comprising Balochistan High Court judge Justice Mohammad Hashim Kakar took serious notice of manhandling of surgeon DR Baqir Shah and photographer Jamal Taraki by police. Kakar asked the police officials to identify as to who beat up Baqir Shah and photojournalist Jamal Taraki.
Deputy Inspector General of Police (Operations) Hamid Shakeel submitted before the court that 2 SHOs Niamatullah Tareen and Naseer Shah and two constables Rajab Ali and Mohammad Aslam were already being quizzed for manhandling the two witnesses. Photographer Jamal Taraki told the tribunal three policemen stopped him and took him to a police station where the moharar and other policemen in civvies tortured him for becoming witness to the Kharotabad incident.
