Consumer court issues notice to Baghbanpura Telephone Exchange

A consumer court on Tuesday issued notice to Baghbanpura Exchange divisional engineer (DE) for July 11 in a suit seeking payment of Rs 200,000 for allegedly providing faulty services.

The court issued the notice during the hearing of an application filed by Mushtaq Ahmed Choudhary submitting that his son Hassan Mushtaq got a telephone line installed at his residence on Infantry Road in March but two months later the phone service was suspended despite timely payment of bills.

Mushtaq said his son forwarded a written application for the restoration of telephone service but the exchange staff took no action. Hassan then served a legal notice to the respondent but the authorities concerned did not bother to reply. The petitioner prayed the court to direct the exchange authorities to pay Rs 200,000 as damages, upon which the court issued notice to the exchange authorities for July 11 to record their statement.
