Two ‘TTP militants’ remanded to CID until 17th

The Judicial Magistrate (JM)-West on Monday remanded two suspected militants of a banned extremist outfit to the Crime Investigation Department (CID) until June 17.The suspects Abdul Razzaq alias Umer alias Sufyan and Rashid Iqbal alias Basit were produced before the court of JM-West Rasool Bux Mirjat who granted the suspects’ physical remand to the CID. According to the prosecution, the suspects were arrested by the CID after an encounter took place in the Frontier Colony on Sunday. Quoting a statement filed by the police, the prosecution submitted that the suspects were arrested after a brief encounter in the Orangi Town police precincts. However, their accomplices managed to escape from the scene under the cover of firing, the prosecution added. The arrested suspects were said to be close associates of the commander of the Wali Mehsud group under the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
Police also claimed recovering two hand grenades, 20 kilogrammes of explosives, two TT pistols, some detonating wires and electronic devices, and 200 bullets from the suspects’ possession. The militants were claimed to be involved in incidents of targeted killings, kidnappings for ransom and robberies across the city. They have also been accused of recruiting young men in order to send them to tribal areas for training. Police submitted that during the preliminary interrogation, the arrested men have confessed that they had recruited around six young men and sent them to Waziristan. Four of them were killed in a US drone strike, whereas two were seriously injured and sent to Karachi for treatment, the police added.
