Like any other Pakistani, I too am shocked at the brutality of Rangers personnel. My condolence is with the majority of the population that the culprits should be made an example of so that no other person could even think of repeating this heinous crime. However, my path divides from the majority when it comes to the judgment given by the Supreme Court regarding the dismissal of DG Rangers and IG Police. I have reservations and feel that the decision is an abuse of the justice system for some very obvious reasons.
Firstly, were the DG rangers and IG Police negligent in doing something which they should not have done or omitted doing anything which they should have done? Let’s look at this in the light of another example, won’t it be ridiculous to hold the Chief Justice of Pakistan responsible for the misconduct of, let’s just say, a clerk in the civil court?
Some people may argue that in sophisticated societies, the high ups are held responsible for the conduct of their employees and do resign as a result even if it wasn’t their fault.
Allow me to bring to light a sad reality of this country; it is not a sophisticated society. I am not happy to say it, but the truth is truth, ignorance will not make it go away.
I strongly condemn the attempts made by some groups to defame the armed forces. We should not criticise the whole institution because of handful of black sheep. It won’t serve any purpose but to demoralise the armed forces.
