Govt won’t challenge SC orders in Karachi killing: AG

The federation will not file a review petition against the Supreme Court’s orders on killing of a youth by the Rangers in Karachi and the orders will be implemented in letter and spirit, Attorney General (AG) for Pakistan Maulvi Anwarul Haq said on Monday. Talking to reporters, however, he said the affected officers could file their review petitions against the court’s orders in their personal capacity.
To a query, he said since no one was impleaded as a party in the suo motu notice and in this case the government was not a party, it would not file the review plea against the court orders.
Meanwhile, Sindh Advocate General Abdul Fateh Malik told Pakistan Today that the Sindh government had decided to defer its decision of filing the review plea against the SC’s decision of sending the Rangers director general and Sindh IG packing. He said the Rangers DG and Sindh IG were the employees of the federal government, therefore, the matter would be dealt with by the government.
On June 10, the SC had ordered the removal of Sindh Rangers Director General Ejaz Chaudhry and Inspector General of Police Fayyaz Leghari over the cold blooded killing of an unarmed youth by the Rangers personnel in Karachi.
