Government College University (GCU) Lahore Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Ikramul Haq honored 26 debaters, singers and instrumentalists of the varsity for their extraordinary performances in the national competitions during the academic year 2010-11, reads a press release issued by the varsity on Monday. GCU VC hosted a reception in honor of these orators and singers at the GCU Syndicate Committee Room, which was attended by Debating Society Adviser Prof Siddique Awan, Nazir Ahmed Music Society (NAMS) Incharge Tariq Suleman Farani and Director Sports Khadim Ali Khan.
According to the release, Prof Awan said that the GCU Debating Society was all set to break its own record of winning 148 oratory awards in one academic year. According to the release, Farani said that music was purest form of art and GCU NAMS has been playing its role to polish students, who secured top positions in all the music competitions. Farani said that GCU NAMS clean swept the All Pakistan Music Conference (APMC) with overall six distinctions and lifted the prestigious Syed Wajid Ali Trophy. He said that NAMS also lifted the team trophy for the sixth consecutive year at the 10th All Pakistan Music Festival held at the Chand Bagh School beating the singers from the 72 prime educational intuitions of Pakistan. The release said Prof Haq congratulated the students on their extraordinary performances in the national competitions and said GCU had always promoted the culture of tolerance and intellect through debates, seminars and publications.
