Jamiat-e-Ulema-e-Islam-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman Sunday opposed any commission to probe the Abbottabad incident. Addressing a press conference after a three-day meeting of the Majlis-Shura of his party, he said, “If any commission is formed to probe the Abbottabad incident, it will have two choices: it can say that Pakistani forces were unaware of the clandestine US operation or they connived with the US action. If the first judgment is given, it will malign the Pakistan Army and if the second is given, the whole country will have to account for it and face the consequences,” Maulana said, adding if he had been in the country, he would have advised the government not to form any commission.
Fazl said the process of reconciliation with Afghanistan for which the two countries had established a joint commission should not remain limited to Afghanistan, but it should be initiated in the country also so that the issue of terror could be resolved politically. “A similar process of reconciliation for which Pakistan and Afghanistan have formed a joint commission, should also be extended to Pakistan to resolve the issue of terror though political means because use of force has failed,” Maulana said, adding the country was in dire need of an independent foreign policy and the two resolutions of the parliament served enough basis for the purpose. He also warned if an independent foreign policy was not adopted, the government would be responsible for the consequences.
Answering a question regarding operation in North Waziristan Agency, Fazl opined no operation would be launched in North Waziristan and, if lunched, it would be horrible for Pakistan military. He said his party wanted the revival of Muthidda Majlis-e-Aml. “The Majlis-e-Shura has, however, asked me to hold talks with all the parties concerned to revive the alliance and I shall discuss the issue with them soon,” the JUI-F chief said. When questioned about the rift over the issue of appointment of Maulana Ghafoor Haideri as the leader of the opposition in the Senate, Fazl said JUI-F was the largest opposition party in the Senate and it was its right. “
If PML-N in Punjab and Awami National Party (ANP) in Khyber Pukhtunkhwa have the right to form governments in their respective provinces for being the largest parties, why PML-N is opposing the JUI-F in the Senate,” the JUI-F chief questioned, adding PML-N was still friendly opposition and was creating rift among the opposition parties to get the budget passed by the parliament. He also said it was the discretion of the Senate chairman and he could review the notification as per rules. Speaking on the issue of Kashmir, Fazl said Parliamentary Committee on Kashmir would convene a meeting soon to which leaders of all the parliamentary parties, Kashmiri leaders from both the sides of the valley and the Foreign Office would be invited.
