The CID Sunday claimed to have arrested two militants, describing themselves as Punjabi Taliban, in Karachi and recovered weapons and explosive material from their possession. SP CID Chaudhry Aslam, while addressing to a press conference, said police on a tip-off raided a neighbourhood and arrested Rashid Iqbal and a suicide bomber Abdul Razzaq alias Sufiyan. Two TT pistols, two hand grenades, 20 kg explosive material and 20 meter detonating wire were also recovered from their possession, he added.
The arrested terrorists revealed that they were in touch with the students of the various seminaries, arranging study circles to prepare them for a holy war, the SP said. The militants confessed that they had sent dozens of seminary students to Wana, the main town of North Waziristan, for terrorism training.
In July 2009, a group of six youngsters Obaidullah, Mohammad Arif, Mohammad Qadeer, Hazrat Ali, Waqar and Arshad had travelled to Waziristan for being trained as suicide bombers. But four of them were killed in drone strike while Waqar and Arshad had been injured seriously and sent back to Karachi for treatment.
“Both the injured persons are also in the custody of CID and would be produced before a court today (Monday),” said Aslam.
Razzaq revealed that they belonged to the Punjabi Taliban and two of his colleague, Bilal and Hamza, had bombed the CID Civil Lines building last year. Bilal was killed in the attack while Hamza escaped from spot.
