Police watch as KESC union thrashes employees

Around 40 Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) union members attacked the underground maintenance teams of the company in the premises of KESC’s A Division offices in Bahadurabad on Saturday morning while law enforcers watched the wanton violence from a police mobile unit, stated a press release issued by the power utility.
The statement said, “The miscreants attacked the employees on the ground floor, injuring two assistant executive engineers, a security guard and two other staff members. Following the attack, the miscreants fled the scene while the personnel of the New Town police watched the whole incident silently from their mobile No SP-6199.”
The statement added, “This is a blatant demonstration of the police’s illegal presence with the mob that attacked and injured KESC employees in clear violation of all the recent directives of the federal and provincial governments as well as the imposition of Section 144 and the orders of the Sindh High Court that had instructed the local administration to keep the union protesters away from KESC offices, employees and installations.”
The KESC has demanded protection for the utility’s employees and installations under the directives of the federal government as well as the orders of the Sindh High Court.
The power company has expressed great discontent over the presence of a police mobile unit with a group of union “miscreants” who attacked KESC employees.
