Petrol supplies replenished in the city on Sunday but still there were long queues of vehicles at CNG stations due to the two-day weekly closure from Monday. Officials at various petrol filling stations said that supplies from oil refineries have improved slightly but still they did not have enough petrol to meet daily needs. They said that the weekly holiday was also a reason for smaller queues at fuel stations. “Normally, people stay home on Sundays and don’t go to offices, therefore, fuel consumption decreases,” a petrol pump manager on Model Town Link Road said. He said that the situation would normalise in coming days, as fuel supplies would improve.
But a few filling stations at Sadar, Gari Shahu and Mughalpura remained closed due to less supply. The Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) closes CNG stations for two days in a week, Monday and Tuesday. People said that they did not want to take any risk, as there is a shortage of petrol and therefore CNG is the only option to run vehicles. “Last week, I faced huge problems as there was no CNG in my vehicle while petrol pumps were also closed,” motorist Farooq Ahmed said adding that this week he did not want to take any risk.
