Rs 1.3b to be spent on local governments

The Punjab government has increased the allocation up to Rs 1.3 billion for local government and community development (LG&CD) in the provincial budget 2011-2012 by earmarking Rs 7 billion in 2011-2012 as compared to Rs 5.7 billion allocated in the last fiscal year 2010-2011.

The budget for LG&CD is for three ongoing schemes with Rs 2.5 billon and four new schemes with the allocation of Rs 4.5 billion. Major initiatives are Punjab Development Programme, Katchi Aabdis Development Programme and Punjab Municipal Improvement Services.
