Rescue 1122 DG concerned over increasing road accidents

Rescue 1122 Director General (DG) Rizwan Naseer on Saturday expressed concern over the increasing number of road traffic crashes (RTC) and involvement of youngsters in them. He urged all citizens to follow road instructions in order to tackle this serious public health issue. Naseer urged parents to ensure safety of their children and not let them ride motorcycles without wearing safety helmets. The Rescue 1122 DG said that by following traffic safety rules and wearing protective equipment, including helmets and seat belts, citizens could prevent a majority of road crashes.
Naseer was given a briefing about RTCs by the Rescue 1122 Research Wing. A review of all RTCs managed by the Punjab Emergency Service during May in all districts of Punjab was held at the Punjab Emergency Service Headquarters. In May, Rescue 1122 responded to 11,888 RTCs emergencies and most of the victims of these crashes, 55 percent, were citizens from 11 to 30-year-old. The percentage of motorcycle crashes was 53 percent.
Separately, valuables worth Rs 1.4 million were reduced to ashes in two fires. A fire broke out in a departmental store in Shadman due to short circuit and reduced valuables worth Rs 1.2 million to ashes. Rescue 1122 teams extinguished the fire with three fire extinguishing units. In Another fire broke out in a wooden furniture shop near Punjab Society and reduced furniture worth Rs 0.2 million to ashes.
