Pakistan Customs officials of Rawalpindi Collectorate Friday foiled a bid to smuggle 15.6 kg gold worth Rs80 million and foreign currency worth Rs 130.72 million into Pakistan from Abu Dhabi at Benazir International Airport.
According to details, a passenger traveling from Abu Dhabi arrived at Benazir International Airport, Islamabad at 0230, was intercepted at Green Channel by Customs authorities. The body search of the passenger led to the recovery of 15.6 kg of Gold worth Rs 80 million and foreign currency including Saudi Riyals, Euro and Yen etc equivalent to Rs 130.72 million.
The gold was artfully concealed in a vest, wrapped around his body having pockets filled with gold bars, whereas the foreign currency notes were wrapped around his legs along the ankles.
