Indian journalist shot dead in Mumbai

A senior Indian journalist working with Mid DAY was Saturday shot dead by unidentified persons in Mumbai.
According to Indian media reports, the incident occurred in the suburban Powai area of the city. The assailants reportedly shot Jyotirmoy Dey outside his residence, the victim, , was rushed to the Hiranandani hospital where he was declared brought dead.
Hospitals sources said, the victim sustained five bullet wounds. The deceased covered crime and underworld for the newspaper.
Reacting to the incident, Maharashtra PWD Minister Chhagan Bhujbal told NDTV that he was ‘shocked’ by the attack. He further added that it appeared to be a handiwork of the underworld.
“The way he was killed shows that it was a well-planned attack…must be an attack by underworld”, Bhujbal said.
According to police, four persons riding on two bikes fired at Dey Saturday afternoon, the shooters escaped from the spot, police said.
