In the name of development

Pakistan is facing the effects of global warming in the shape of prolonged summer seasons, sudden weather changes and heavy floods. One of the factors that have led to this situation is the cutting down of trees or deforestation. Our country already has only a meagre 4-5 percent of area covered in trees. These forests are being cut down all in the name of development. In our Northern Areas the mountains once lush green with trees now stand bare and barren, speaking volumes about inefficiency of the government in maintaining a check on the timber mafia, and planting new trees.
