PM seeks resolution of KESC staff, power supply issues

Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani Friday directed the federal and provincial governments to ensure complete protection to KESC’s installations, offices and personnel for the smooth supply of electricity to the residents of Karachi. Chairing a meeting here Gilani said a committee comprising representatives of key stakeholders should be constituted to deliberate upon labour related issues of KESC and find solutions to the problems at the earliest.

He directed that the KESC management to improve power supply system in Karachi.
Earlier Minister for Water and Power Naveed Qamar briefed the meeting on the current electricity supply situation in Karachi and KESC’s labour related issues.

Farooq Sattar, Minister for Overseas Pakistanis, stressed for early overhaul of power supply situation adding that the outages were taking their toll on economy. Dr Hafeez A Sheikh, Minister for Finance, asked for solving the KESC issues at the earliest keeping in view the overall business environment throughout the country. Rehman Malik, Minister for Interior, while explaining the law and order situation arising out of KESC affairs, proposed to take all stakeholders including political forces on board for early settlement of the issues.

In his remarks, the prime minister said that the government’s privatization policy aimed at improved service delivery on cost effective basis. This approach, he said, would extend appropriate opportunities to private sector. NEPRA chairman, Water and Power secretary, Sindh chief secretary and other senior officials also attended the meeting.
