HRCP has condemned the murder of an unarmed young man by the Sindh Rangers in Karachi on Wednesday. The incident’s video, broadcasted by television channels, clearly showed that the man did not have any weapon and was surrounded by Rangers when one of them took aim and shot him. HRCP called the murder an indication of law enforcement personnel becoming increasingly ‘trigger-happy’. HRCP demanded a transparent investigation of the incident and appropriate action to ensure justice for victim, including compensation for the deceased’s family. It also stressed sensitization and training of law enforcement personnel to prevent frequent occurrence of easily avoidable deaths.
