26 killed in violence in KP, adjacent tribal region

At least 26 people were killed and several others injured in three incidents of violence in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and adjacent tribal region. Eight security forces’ personnel and 12 militants were killed in a clash in Makeen area of South Waziristan. A security forces checkpost was attacked by militants killing eight personnel. The officials also confirmed injuries to another 12. They said in retaliatory action, the security forces shot dead 12 militants and injured seven others. The security forces also cordoned off the area and started a search operation.
Meanwhile, four men were killed and three injured in an improvised explosive devise (IED) attack on a vehicle in Matanai area of Peshawar on Thursday. Unidentified men had planted the IED targeting local peace committee members travelling in the vehicle. Deputy Superintendent Police Sajjad Khan said the explosives were planted in garbage dumped on the roadside, adding that the vehicle was on way to Kalakhela from Matani area. In the third incident, an IED explosion killed two and injured several others in Barawal area of Upper Dir.
