Nawaz cancels Quetta tour after ‘deliberate’ flight delay by PIAq

PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif, who was to fly to Quetta in connection with his party’s reorganisation drive in Balochistan on Wednesday, cancelled the tour in the wake of what he called “a deliberate delay in a scheduled flight by PIA at the behest of the federal government”. Nawaz and his delegation had reached the airport at 10am, just before the departure of flight PK 323 for Quetta. The PML-N chief was to meet the provincial organisation committee to discuss the party’s reorganisation activities and would have also met nationalist leaders to explore possibilities for the next general election, a senior party leader told Pakistan Today. “The departure was delayed by 15 minutes and this situation continued until 12pm. Finally, Nawaz cancelled the tour, complaining that the PIA administration and federal government had planned the delay to spoil his reorganisation drive,” he added. Senator Pervaiz Rashid told Pakistan Today later that the party would demand an inquiry into the delay. “The tour will be reinitiated next week,” he said.
