Austerity drive to continue

The Punjab government has decided to continue the austerity measures taken in the last fiscal year, which saved up to Rs 6 billion for the national exchequer, Pakistan Today has learnt.
The austerity committee of the Punjab government decided in a recent meeting to continue the policy and instructed the relevant departments in this regard.
The measures include rationalization of vehicles being used by high-ups. The committee decided that the departmental secretaries should voluntarily surrender more than one vehicle entitled for their posts.
Moreover, the police officials who use more than entitled protocol of personnel should also surrender it. Air conditioners in government offices should also be used between 11 am to 2 pm to save electricity.
A member privy to the meeting further said that the government has decided as a matter of principle to save an amount equal to last year’s or more in the coming year through the austerity measures.
