ANP activist, couple among five killed

At least five people, including an activist of Awami National Party (ANP) and a woman, were killed in separate incidents in the city on Wednesday.
Peerabad police said an ANP activist was shot dead in the Qasba Colony in Orangi Town.
Javed alias Toti Khan was sitting at a weekly bazaar when two armed motorcyclists opened fire at him. The victim died on the spot and was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Police said Javed was an active worker of ANP UC-12 Ward.
The incident sparked violence in the area as unidentified armed persons forced the shopkeepers to close down their businesses. Two girls were also reportedly injured in firing incidents while a hi-roof vehicle on set to fire in Orangi Town. A 23-year-old hotel worker was gunned down by unidentified armed attackers within the Kalakot police jurisdiction.
Police said Saifur Rehman was killed by armed motorcyclists when he was working at the Bilal Hotel. The owner of the hotel, Saifullah, also suffered bullet injuries.
The victims, both from Swat, were shifted to the Civil Hospital Karachi (CHK). Another person was killed by his brother in a brawl that erupted over a family dispute.
Jackson police said Abdul Qayyum was beating her mother when his younger brother Rauf arrived in the house and tried to stop his elder brother. Qayyum, instead started thrashing him and fire at his brother. Rauf died on the spot.
Police have registered a case against Qayyum. Meanwhile, a couple was shot dead by their son-in-law in Mehran Goth, Korangi Industrial Area (KIA) over personal enmity.
KIA police said that 48-year-old Mushtaq and his 32-year-old wife were shot dead by their son-in-law Sajid Sumar in Mehran Goth.
The couple’s daughter had married Sumar only a few days ago and the latter killed the couple over their suspected involvement in the mysterious disappearance of his wife.
Separately, the body of an unidentified man was recovered from the Super Highway area.
