After issuing over 1.6 million Watan cards, NADRA is likely to start the second phase of compensating flood survivors, NADRA Deputy Chairman Tariq Malik said on Monday. He said that in the second phase – Citizen’s Damage Compensation Programme – cash compensation would be given to more than a million flood survivors. NADRA is working with the provincial governments to start the second phase of relief as early as possible, and the WB has already approved $125 million for relief work.
In the first phase, NADRA had disbursed cash assistance of over Rs 30 billion to flood survivors across the country. NADRA has set a global example in helping people and a mechanism for disbursement of cash assistance transparently. In Sindh alone, the number of Watan Cards issued was 651,990 with the amount disbursed standing at Rs 11.38 billion.
