The Supreme Court on Monday ordered the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) to immediately issue broadcasting license to Geo Super and submit a compliance report within three days.
A three-member Supreme Court bench of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Tariq Parvez and Justice Amir Hani Muslim was hearing an appeal by Geo Super seeking directions to PEMRA to immediately issue the channel broadcasting license.
The court noted that it was binding on PEMRA to issue or reject any request for license within 100 days, but it had not decided the application by Geo Super for four years. The court also expressed dismay over PEMRA acting Chairman Abdul Jabbar Memon for not implanting SHC verdict in the matter.
During the hearing, Memon said he could not issue the license as he was working as the acting chairman.
