The Pakistan Cricket Board will honour the court of law and its legal department will fight the case filed by former captain Shahid Afridi. An official of the PCB said that it has great respect for the court and will follow the court’s instructions and take the course of action only after the courts proceedings. The Sindh High Court on Tuesday ordered a stay against PCB’s disciplinary proceedings in Afridi’s case, and asked the PCB and the sports ministry to appear before it on Thursday.
An official of the board said that they would honour the court decision and the course of action will be taken after the court’s verdict. “We filed a petition at the Sindh High Court against the PCB’s disciplinary committee and the punishments,” Syed Ali Zafar, Afridi’s lawyer was reported to have said. “The court has suspended the committee [hearings] and PCB is bound to abide by the high court. They have been asked to appear before the high court the day after tomorrow and the punishments stand null and void as of now,” he added.
PCB chairman Ijaz Butt earlier warned sacked ODI captain Shahid Afridi to either appear before the disciplinary committee on Wednesday or be prepared for a unilateral decision against him by the panel. Butt had said that all the political support that the sacked one-day team captain was trying to generate would not affect the working of the disciplinary committee.
