Nawaz blames Zardari for giving new life to withering PML-Q

PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif probably knows no bounds when it comes to the bashing of the house of Gujrat, he apparently cannot even control himself or put the Chaudhrys out of his mind in a condolence meeting. Sources told Pakistan Today that during a recent meeting with President Asif Ali Zardari at the Presidency, where Nawaz and a high-powered PML-N delegation had gone to offer their condolences over the death of the president’s father Hakim Zardari, the PML-N chief was short on the commiseration and long on the Chaudhrys bashing, quite unexpectedly. Unexpected was the move because the Chaudhrys’ joining the government is an old story and it’s time for Nawaz to move on instead of being stuck in the groove.
While sharing his thoughts later, a participant of the meeting said it was not just a condolence meeting. “Nawaz spoke for 27 minutes against the Chaudhrys”. He minced no word in his outbursts, telling Zardari that while the PML-N successfully crushed the Chaudhrys, he (Zardari and the PPP) resurrected them by giving a new lease of life by allowing them to join the government, the source disclosed. Nawaz also accused Zardari of embracing the forces which aligned with the former dictator Pervez Musharraf to defeat democratic forces. It is learnt that Zardari gave a patient hearing to Nawaz and other PML-N leaders, taking part in the discussion from time to time in support of their views.
Paradoxically, when Nawaz bursts out against the Chaudhrys, he claims that he was doing it solely out of morality and it had nothing to do with politics. But the very principled stand slipped out of his mind when he recently embraced the likes of Senator Tariq Azeem, a protégée of Musharraf, and more importantly when he looked the other way over the creation of a splinter group in the PML-Q, now known as the Unification Group.
