Referring to the alleged mishandling of the issue of the former National Cricket Team captain Shahid Afridi, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif accused the government of mistreating the matters of the national interest.

Talking to journalists after inauguration of a summer cricket camp, former prime minister said the government policies had turned Pakistan into a banana state where democracy had never been given chance to grow up while corruption and unaccountability made the situation worst here.

He expressed his wonder why the government was hesitating to constitute a commission to probe into the Abbottabad incident and added that the delay had damaged the image of Pakistan in the world.

He said Shahid Afridi was a great player who brought the green shirts to semi final of the world cup and made the nation proud but mishandling in his case revealed the incompatibility of the cricket board.

  1. Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif nominated Ishaq Dar as the opposition leader in the Senate. Ishaq Dar’s son is married to Nawaz Sharif’s daughter and Nawaz’s son-in-law Captain (retd) Safdar is now in-charge of the PML-N’s youth wing, who is nominating his favourite workers on key posts in the youth wing and removing those who were loyal to the PML-N during Nawaz Sharif’s exile. The promotion of close relatives in the party by Mian sahib and keeping all the major seats within the family has disgruntled senior party stalwarts. Shahbaz Sharif, his younger brother, and his son Hamza Shahbaz, are running the Punjab government. Abid Sher Ali, whose mother is Nawaz Sharif’s first cousin, is chairman of the standing committee on education and member of standing committees on water and power, youth affairs, and privatisation and investment in the National Assembly. MNA Bilal Yaseen, cousin of Nawaz Sharif, was vice chairman of the Water and Sanitation Authority, Lahore. Similarly, MPA Mohsin Latif, close relative of the Sharif brothers, is chairman of the Task Force on Parks and Horticulture. It is unfortunate that the mainstream political party heads are not allowing democracy within their parties. Dynastic politics in Pakistan is one of the obstacles to the growth of democracy. The majority of people who belong to the low and middle class are deprived of any key position in the party.
