All Parties Conference (APC) has exhorted consumers of the Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) not to pay last month’s bills in solidarity with protesting workers of the power utility. KESC CBA Union Chairman Ayaz Mengal has also seconded the demand.
An APC delegation went to the Karachi Press Club (KPC) on Monday to meet with KESC’s protesting workers, and to deliberate a future course of action against the management. The APC unanimously passed a resolution to request consumers of the KESC not to pay the monthly bill of May, arguing that the power utility’s performance has been terrible since the workers went on strike and power outages were crippling many parts of the city for prolonged durations.
KESC CBA Chairman Ayaz Mengal said that trade unions and associations will arrive at the KPC on Tuesday (today) to join the protesting workers’ camp. He rejected allegations of management that some protesting workers were minting money from consumers for removing cable faults in parts of city and called it propaganda against worker’s movement. He also refused incidents of attack and arson of KESC property.
The APC delegation included representatives of Awami National Party, Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz, Jamaat-e-Islami, Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, Punjabi Pakhtun Ittehad, Baluchistan National Party, Pakistan Peoples Party-Shaheed Bhutto and others.
