CDGK mulls low-cost housing scheme

In a bid to provide low-cost housing for poor citizens, the City District Government Karachi (CDGK) has decided to mobilise its public housing department and construct residential apartments on its empty plots.
The move is aimed at helping citizens avail low-cost quality residential facilities as well as filling up the CDGK’s coffers, sources told Pakistan Today, with a decision to mobilise the city government’s public housing department taken by District Coordination Officer (DCO) Muhammad Hussain Syed in a recent meeting.
A committee has also been constituted for the purpose, with the Contract Management district officer (DO) heading it. Other members of the committee include Land I and II DO , Public Housing DO, State DO, Master Plan DO, Works & Services DO and Revenue Department DO. The committee will report back within a week, so that work on this project can start from the current month, sources added.
The meeting also decided to thoroughly review the auction of CDGK’s plots prior to the auction by the notified committee so that any discrepancies can be corrected.
