The recent housing census should be cross-checked and verified with the help of NADRA data to eliminate fake or bogus entries in urban areas of Sindh, otherwise it would affect the constituencies’ delimitation in the coming elections, religious and nationalist political parties said on Sunday.
Jamaat-e-Islami’s senator, Professor Khurshid Ahmed, told Pakistan Today that his party was concerned over the fake entries in housing census in the Sindh urban areas as it would affect the constituencies’ delimitation seriously. “The delimitation of constituencies is made on the basis of population and if the housing or population census is fake or bogus, it will seriously affect the delimitation process and give benefit to a particular party,” Professor Khurshid said.
He demanded the government verify or cross-check the data of the housing census with that of NADRA to eliminate fake entries. Some political parties in the past had been claiming that a large number of bogus or fake entries had been made in the housing census of the urban areas in Sindh which would affect the credibility of the census besides converting the native Sindhi population into a minority.
When contacted, Dr Khalid Soomro, a JUI-F senator from Sindh who had raised the point in the last session of the Senate, said there were around 2.3 million people residing in Sindh urban areas, especially Karachi, included illegal emigrants. During the recent housing census, a large number of fake houses have been registered and that will not only affect the delimitation of constituencies but also convert the native Sindhis into a minority sooner or later, he added, condemning the silence of the ruling PPP on the issue.
