A delegation of the National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM), India is coming to Pakistan in October this year. It has been learnt that the delegation of NASSCOM is going to look out for further collaboration and market ventures in Pakistan with the help of the Pakistan Software Houses Association for IT & ITES (PASHA).
When contacted, President PASHA Jehan Ara confirmed the news and said that they are visiting in search of more ventures and this is in response to our visit to India some time back, however, a quite plausible advancement in terms of collaboration is expected in this round. “We have found them some clients in Pakistan and even some Pakistani IT companies were able to have joint ventures with Indian IT companies,” she said, adding that the main purpose of our collaboration is to look for new markets in this regard and we are happy with the progress of our efforts.
On the other hand, some entrepreneurs who are directly involved in this collaboration exercise said that the progress is quite slow and not up to the mark. Moreover, they are hopeful of the current state of harmony between both the associations considering the political impediments between both countries. It is pertinent to mention that there were some success stories of this collaboration of PASHA and NASSCOM.
A Pakistani IT company, Infosys has been working on a project in collaboration with the Indian group TATA, in Saudi Arabia and around 12 Pakistani IT professionals are there on their panel. Another leading Pakistani IT firm, NetSol was also able to sell its product named ‘NetSol Financial Suite’ to a global Indian Auto company in April last. It was a very proud moment for the country to enter into an acknowledged IT industry of the world, India, despite many issues between the two countries.
It merits mentioning here that PASHA is very actively working in the promotion of Pakistani IT professionals and companies all over the world, and the venture which involves penetration into the Indian IT market is considered to be a strategic initiative for the IT industry in the country. According to the mission statement, NASSCOM is a global trading body with more than 1200 members, which include both Indian and multinational companies that have a presence in India.
NASSCOM’s member and associate member companies are broadly in the business of software development, software services, software products, consulting services, BPO services, e-commerce & web services, engineering services, off shoring and animation and gaming. NASSCOM’s membership base constitutes over 95 percent of the industry revenues in India and employs over 2.24 million professionals.
