‘Provision of safe drinking water to all essential’

There is a need to undertake efforts for ensuring provision of safe drinking water to everyone in the country, Federal Science and Technology Minister Mir Chengez Khan Jamali said on Saturday. He was speaking as chief guest at a seminar on provision of safe drinking water. The gathering was held at the Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research Institute.
The minister praised the efforts of the Pakistan Council for Research in Water Resources for coming up with the idea of looking after the quality of water in both urban and rural areas of the country. He also called for adopting low-quality technology for monitoring the quality of water and treating polluted water. “The officials engaged in this important task must be imparted the required training,” he added.
The minister said that in Pakistan, around 200,000 children die of water-borne diseases every year. He said that keeping this in view, the project of providing safe drinking water has become more significant. “All available resources should be utilised to address the problem and ensure that safe drinking water is available to everyone in the country,” the minister added.
