Punjab set to unveil Rs 653 billion budget in few days

The Punjab government is ready to unveil Rs 653 billion annual budget for 2011-12 in a few days.
According to a private TV, at least Rs 219 billion have been proposed for the development projects in Lahore while another Rs 20 billion are likely to be earmarked for local governments in the province.
At least Rs 6.30 billion will be allocated for hospital medicines and provision of food in jails. Rs 5.2 will be allocated for a special package for health sector while the Punjab Education Foundation and Endowment Fund will be given Rs 8 billion.
At least Rs 7 billion are likely to earmarked for housing, livestock, and transport sectors, and Rs 4 billion for agriculture, energy, government buildings and highways.
The work to revise budget allocations has been started to increase salaries and pensions of the provincial government employees by 15 percent, costing an additional Rs 3 billion every month to the provincial exchequer.
A project will also be launched for the development of southern Punjab.
