Journalists have demanded a judicial probe into Syed Saleem Shahzad’s murder and have threatened the government with a long march and sit-in before the parliament if journalists were not ensured security.
The Punjab Union of Journalists (PUJ) held a protest rally from Regal Chowk to Charing Cross on Friday and condemned the killing of veteran journalist who was found dead after being abducted on May 29.
The protest was arranged on the call of Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ). Addressing the protesters, Lahore Press Club President Sarmad Bashir said the government had failed to guarantee security for journalists. Commenting on Rehman Malik’s statement of issuing arms’ license to journalists, he said it was impossible for journalists to carry out counter killings. PUJ President Rana Azeem said journalists had received enough bodies and would not allow further killings.
