Sindh Assembly back in session today

The Sindh Assembly returns in session from today (Friday) and is expected to continue till the completion of the new financial year’s budget process. The Sindh government is expected to present the province’s budget for financial year 2011-12 on June 10.  Passing of some legislation is high on the agenda since new laws are required for some aspects of the new budget. These include a bill regarding taxation on services.
According to the order of the day prepared by the Sindh Assembly Secretariat for first day of the session, Sindh Law Minister Ayaz Soomro would introduce the Sindh Sales on Services Bill-2011. He is also scheduled to introduce another bill, Thar Coal and Energy Board Bill-2011.
The government will also move the Sindh Civil Services (Regularization of Absorption) Bill-2001 for consideration. The bill is aimed at providing legal cover to those employees of the Federal government and other institutions whose services were amalgamated into the provincial government. Laying of an ordinance, the Zulfikarabad Development Authority (Amendment) Ordinance, is also included in agenda of the day.
The Sindh government is already engaged in making security arrangements for the Sindh Assembly’s current budget session. Work on installation of well equipped security gates is already underway at the main entrance of the Sindh Assembly complex, explained Sindh Assembly Secretary Hadi Bux Buriro. He Buriri told Pakistan Today that the work would be completed before the presentation of the new fiscal year budget.
