Karachi police have managed to regain control of the Clifton grid station from militants who had earlier stormed the station and shut down as many as 27 feeders.
Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) officials said, law enforcement agencies including rangers and police upon directives of Sindh Governor Sind, Dr Ishratul Ibad, stormed the station and retook control of power station, allowing KESC staffers to turn power back on to 27 feeders.
Earlier, unknown miscreants attacked a grid station located in Clifton locality in metropolis and managed to shut down over two dozen feeders, suspending electricity supply to many areas including Bilawal House late Thursday.
Those areas faced the cut of electricity supply in result of attack on power station included Bilawal House, Ziauddin Hospital, Bath Island, Shereen Jinnah Colony, Kimari Center and others.
According to KESC spokesman, more than 10 people had stormed Clifton gird station, started rampage and turned off 27 power feeders.
He said that over two dozen feeders were shut down following the attack, adding that the militants had taken station under their control.
Later, Sindh Governor Dr. Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan, taking strict notice of the incident, issued directives to law enforcement agencies to take action against the miscreants.
Reportedly, rangers and police personnel placed a cordon around the power station and prepared to counter militants holed up inside the station and who were believed to be unarmed.
KESC management said that 11:45 pm on June 2 armed men stormed the Clifton grid station and shutdown 27 feeders of 11Kv each. This resulted in suspension of power to Bilawal House, Ziauddin Hospital, Bath Island, Shirin Jinnah Colony, Kemari Centre, along with parts of Clifton and DHA.
