Multan Corps commander Lt General Shafqat Ahmad on Friday ruled out any act of terrorism in the recent helicopter crash as investigations were underway.
He surveyed the site of the crash in Layyah, and while talking to reporters thanked the cooperation of the locals in rescue activities. According to Multan ISPR spokesman Major Farooq Feroze, Ahmad said the incident was caused due to bad weather and ruled out any possibility of sabotage.
Ahmad said 80 percent of the helicopter wreckage had been salvaged, adding that search for the missing passengers would continue.
The corps commander directed the officials to expand the area of the search in the Indus up to 130 kilometres downstream to find the bodies of Punjab DG Rangers Major General Muhammad Nawaz and Subedar Hidayat, the ISPR spokesman said.
Bodies of helicopter pilot Lt Col Amir Abbas and Captain Asif Nawaz, son of DG Punjab Rangers who was also his ADC, have been identified so far. Some parts of human body were found in Taunsa barrage of River Sindh and were sent for DNA tests.
