‘Wakhan route to open soon’

In an hour-long meeting with the visiting business delegation of Pakistan, Emomali Rahman President of Republic of Tajikistan on Thursday said that he would ensure to open the Wakhan Corridor, linking his country with Afghanistan and Pakistan soon after completing the ongoing CASA-1000 MW project.
Direct air service from Islamabad to Dushanbe would also be commenced soon through resolving issues regarding landing rates. He said that with the provision of electricity to the neighboring country Afghanistan, Kabul’s support to facilitate the Wakhan Corridor route, a land route for the three countries, would be easier to be obtained. “All possible facilities would be offered to Pakistani businessmen who are interested to invest here and expand their trade relations.”
He told the business group led by the Chief Executive of Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) here at the presidency.The Pakistani deputation also ensured the Tajik President that Islamabad would support Tajikistan to have a membership in World Trade Organization (WTO) and also welcomed the current project of CASA-1000 MW which would not only provide electricity to Afghanistan in the first phases but also to Pakistan later on. Discussing the existing visa policy, which favour trading activities, the Tajik president said that those businessmen who would receive recommendation from TDAP or FPCCI would be issued a visa immediately.
